In the exhibition Radna presented her new publication Shaky Ground (Stubborn Material), its 'companion images' and Maria showed a site-specific sculptural installation Sunstop Sky and a new series of drawings: Arch.
In Sunstop Sky, a set of opalescent roofing panels rests on the floor
and against the wall. Sunstop Sky is titled after the commercial name of the
panels, originally designed to catch and retain sunlight. The installation plays on
this purpose, its colour ever so slightly transformed depending on the viewer’s
position and the surrounding light. Punctuated by mirror vinyl text, glimmers
appear both literally and as a sculptural language. Through these glimmers,
Maria evokes the echoes, pauses, and reverberations of language; a study on
how perception itself can behave like a poem.
Arch a series of drawings of arches made with gouache and confetti stars. The series is inspired by the
vaulted ceiling of PuntWG and the artist’s research into churches’ architecture
and medieval paintings. These works recover a sense of poetic yet whimsical
transcendence: the stars suggesting that revelation might not live in the
monumental.
Playing throughout the space, Bright Measureis a collaborative
sound piece between Maria Paris Borda and Radna Rumping, emerging from
conversations held while preparing the exhibition. The work weaves together
texts by both artists on (in)finitude, slipping images, and the small revelations of
everyday life, and includes recordings of the surroundings of puntWG.
